Altcoin

Altcoin is a cryptocurrency secured using cryptography to secure transactions in an exchange. An altcoin is any digital currency similar to bitcoin, but an alternative, hence “Alt-coin”. Unlike currencies backed by central banks to determine their value, altcoins are decentralized currencies backed by the security of blockchain technology.
